Clearing Storm, Ox Bow Bend
I was in the Tetons for a couple of days and decided to visit famous "Ox Bow Bend" early one morning. It had rained much of the previous night. I got there about an hour before sunrise and had a bowl of granola as I waited. With the first hint of light I scouted out my spot. First I climbed up a hill. I had seen a photo taken from high by a photographer friend of mine that I had liked, but just couldn't seem to find the spot; so back down to river's edge I went. It was plenty light enough to see by now, and I didn't like what I saw. The clouds were heavy and thick. No pretty light at all. I decided to wait....I didn't have anywhere else to be....as I watched other hearty souls give up and leave. This wasn't "the day" I heard over and over. There I sat, in the mud at the edge of the river, debating where I would 'try' next; when suddenly, like the Red Sea parting before Moses, the clouds opened to reveal the dark form of Mt. Moran, and just as suddenly a glorious beam of light inflamed the fall aspens along the shore! The clouds that had parted were almost fluorescent in a pinkish glow! It lasted less that a minute, thirty seconds I would say, and it was over. I was left again sitting in the near darkness contemplating the magnificence of the universe.
