Sir Oliver began his artistic career in the music industry at the age of 17. He was a sales representative in a record store in Boston, Massachusetts, then moved to New York to work at V.P. Records, the number one reggae label in the world. He became a DJ and would open for renounced artists such as Beres Hammond, Toots and the Maytal, The Wailers, Stephen Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Jr. Gong Marley. His DJ style is known as “roots and culture music with a message”. Sir Oliver came to L.A. seeking to explore the music and arts community. A friend introduced him to Studio 526 seven years ago and he has been a program participant ever since. Sir Oliver utilizes the art space as well as the music room and practice space. He also hosts annual community events such as Bob Marley Day and Jamaican Independence Day celebrations. He hopes to sell more artwork to fund this year’s events and to purchase new turntables so he can continue to DJ.
