Recently, I have become interested in the work of MC Escher, an early 20th century graphic artist. Escher is best known for his impossible stairways art. He is also well known for his tessellation art. A tessellation is a tiling of a shape that connects to itself with no gaps or overlays. It is a pattern often seen in fabrics, wallpapers, and flooring. By combining this form with word art, I am developing a newer form of tessellation that I call, “Graffiti Tessellation”. My first series using this form, “CityScapes”, displays tilings of major USA city names. Whether it is the exotic animals that create Las Vegas, the mountainous lines in Denver, or the multiple fish that make up Seattle--each piece is uniquely inspired by characteristics of the corresponding city. These pieces are available in poster, framed print, or wrapped canvas format. Prices vary, but run from about $20.00---$100.00. I can also create a Graffiti Tessellation just for you that contains a word or phrase that has special meaning to you such as family names or sports teams.
